Breast Screening

Posted on:

Dear Patient

We support the national breast screening programme

The NHS Breast Screening Programme invites all women aged between 50 and 70 for screening every three years. This means having a special X-ray called a mammogram.

We strongly encourage you to attend as soon as you are invited. The mammograms are done from a mobile scanner and so if you delay in responding it may have moved on to a different part of the city, meaning you may lose your opportunity to be checked.Breast screening is effective in picking up early changes which can be dealt with before they turn into a serious problem so it is a very good programme to take part in to protect your health.

If you do miss your screening for whatever reason, you can contact the screening service and they can offer a catch up appointment as follows:

–       Ridgacre House and Dovecote patients: 0121 335 8050

–       Nechells Practice patients: 0121 507 4967If you cannot get through on these numbers, phone the surgery on 0121 422 3111 and ask to speak to our secretary and we will do what we can to put you in touch.

All our doctors and nurses are happy to talk to you about any aspect of the breast screening programme so please get in touch if you have any questions.https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/breast-cancer-screening/http://www.bscreen.org.uk/southbirminghamhttps://www.swbh.nhs.uk/services/breast-screening/
